German utility EnBW and US start-up Trident Winds have formed a joint venture (JV) to build the up-to-1GW Morro Bay floating wind power development off California, as the lead-off project in a long-term international partnership.

The duo’s immediate focus is on securing the grid connection and site lease for the development, which could form part of potential future competitive auctions under consideration by the US Bureau of Offshore Energy Management, with a view to bringing the wind farm online as early as 2025.
