Firefighters were called to a wind turbine blaze in southern England after what local media reported as a lightning strike.

The turbine fire began in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the five-turbine Ransonmoor wind farm in Cambridgeshire.

Media outlet Cambs News, which said the turbine was struck by lightning, published a YouTube video of the blaze’s aftermath.

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue service said no firefighting action was required, but it remained on standby while the fire burned itself out. There were no reports of injuries.

The 10MW Ransonmoor is operated by Thrive Renewables using 2MW Gamesa G80 and Senvion MM82 turbines. It entered service in 2007.

Thrive Renewables has not so far replied to a request from Recharge for comment on the blaze.
