Xcel Energy is on track to have more than 10GW of wind power capacity on its systems by 2022, which will make it the first US electricity provider to reach a target that few in the utility industry thought possible earlier this decade.
Xcel, based in Minneapolis, had 6.65GW of wind capacity – contracted and owned – on 1 January this year, equivalent to 21% of its energy supply.
