Ameren Missouri, the largest subsidiary of St. Louis-based US utility group Ameren, has agreed to acquire a 400MW wind farm from developer Terra-Gen when the project is finished, representing more than half of the utility’s targeted 700MW wind build-out by the time the production tax credit expires.

Late last year coal-reliant Ameren Missouri substantially stepped up its wind ambitions, in a reflection of the cost advantage that onshore wind farms now enjoy over other sources of power in the US Midwest, and particularly wind projects qualified for the full PTC.
