American Electric Power’s (AEP) landmark 2GW Wind Catcher Energy Connection project took an important step closer to start of construction after winning approval from Arkansas utility regulators on Tuesday.

The Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) determined the $4.5bn project is in the public interest.

The decision approved provisions of a settlement agreement submitted in a 20 February joint motion by AEP subsidiary Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), APSC General Staff, the Arkansas Attorney General, Walmart Stores and Sam's West.
