Germany-based OEM Senvion will head up a 14-company consortium that will develop a first 10MW+ offshore turbine design for fixed and floating foundations, following financial sign-off on a landmark €25m ($29.9m) project funded by the European Commission.

The ReaLCoE – Robust, reliable and large offshore wind energy converters for clean, low cost and competitive electricity – project has the mission statement of “unleash[ing] the full potential of offshore wind energy to be in direct competition with conventional energy sources in electricity markets worldwide”.
