Floating wind pioneer Ideol has linked with global investment giant Macquarie in a bid to develop the world’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm off Japan.

France-based Ideol signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Acacia Renewables, Macquarie’s Japanese clean energy unit, with a view to beginning construction in 2023 of a "multi-hundred megawatt" project.

The location of the project is not specified in a statement announcing the MoU.
