The Northern Ireland Renewables Industry Group (NIRIG) will today launch a strategy designed to decarbonise the province’s energy sector by 2050 taking into account such rapid technological advances as those being made in energy storage.

NIRIG points out that onshore wind is helping to reduce electricity costs in the all-island single electricity market, delivering savings to consumers.

The document recommends a wide range of measures to create much-needed long-term policy certainty to reap the benefits from renewables.
