UK offshore wind enjoyed its “busiest year yet” in 2017, with operational capacity hitting 5.83GW and a record 20.9TWh of power produced, according to the latest annual review of the sector by seabed landlord The Crown Estate.

The UK offshore sector brought 1.8GW of new capacity into service and delivered enough electricity for 20% of UK homes in 2017, a year that also saw a first with the operational debut of 8MW turbines, said The Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Operational Report.
