Enel Green Power North America (EGP-NA) added more new US wind capacity than any other company last year, dethroning perennial leader NextEra Energy – even as NextEra held onto its enormous lead in total ownership, according to new figures from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

Massachusetts-based EGP-NA, a unit of Italian utility giant Enel, has long been a major player in the US renewables market, but 2017 was a breakout year, with the company and its developer partner Tradewind Energy installing 1,247MW as they completed big projects in Kansas, North Dakota, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
