The US government on Friday proposed a competitive auction for two additional commercial wind lease areas in federally-owned waters south of Massachusetts, asking potential bidders to express their interest, or reaffirm it, in the next two months.

The areas on the outer continental shelf are OCS-A 0502, comprising 248,015 acres (1,004sq km), and OCS-A 0503 (140,554 acres).

They are located south-southwest of Nantucket and form part of a large Wind Energy Area (WEA) that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the state defined earlier this decade.
