US offshore fabrication yard Gulf Island has inked a contract with US Wind for a meteorological mast tower and platform for the developer's up to 250MW offshore wind development off Maryland.

The contractor, which supplied jacket foundations for the landmark 30MW Block Island array off Rhode Island, will supply the new order from its Houma, Louisania yard.

Gulf Island chief executive Kirk Meche said: "[This order] supports our efforts to diversify our company within our reporting segments as we continue to look for ways to provide opportunities for our employees and value-added returns for our shareholders."
