Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has shipped first nacelles from its new factory in Cuxhaven, Germany, on its Rotra Ventre transport ship to the Ostend installation harbour in Belgium using a new logistics concept that eliminates road transportation of large and heavy wind turbine components.
Instead, components are moved in a tailor-made “Roll-on/Roll-off” (Ro/Ro) process directly from the factory to the vessel that also gets rid of crane loading.
