Sharyland Utilities has begun to alleviate some transmission congestion in the Texas Panhandle, improving export capacity for electricity from a region that been one of the hottest wind power investment plays in the Americas in recent years.

Earlier this year, Sharyland energized and connected the first of two new synchronous condensers to substations located on its 345kV Panhandle Loop that is fed by wind farms and other generators in a wide swath around the City of Amarillo.
