Two UK utilities were lashed by the country’s energy regulator over a failed attempt to recover £120m ($167m) in transmission costs based on rules around offshore wind connections.

Ofgem criticised SSE and EDF after the two lost an appeal to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) over what they claimed was overcharging in the 2015/16 financial year.

The two utilities claimed UK generators had paid more than they should have done under EU rules governing maximum transmission charges, if offshore wind links were taken into account.
