With most Latin American countries still to see the practical results of recent changes to renewable energy policies, new wind capacity installations slowed in 2017 to 3.1GW – below the yearly average of 3.8GW between 2013 and 2016, figures from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) showed.

But over the next two to four years wind capacity additions should return to their historic annual levels as markets like Argentina and Mexico mature, new markets are expected to open up – namely Colombia – and as Brazil gets back on track after restarting tenders following a two-year lull.
