Wind turbine drivetrain designer Winergy is set to start trials of a 1.5MW model gearbox outfitted with a new Internet of Things (IoT) based condition monitoring system, at the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado.

The SmartGear technology platform, which uses IoT-enabled sensors, oil condition monitoring, sampling and analysis, edge computing and data analytics – and has cyber-security features – is being delivered by predictive analytics and machine-learning outfit LogiLube and partner Flender Corporation.
