South Africa’s public enterprises minister has given state utility Eskom the all-clear to sign 27 long-delayed PPAs with renewables projects, removing what should be the last obstacle to ending an impasse that has paralysed the nation’s wind and solar sectors.
Minister Lynne Brown’s Friday announcement was greeted with “relief” by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), which said Eskom and the affected developers can now “set a mutually suitable date” for signing PPAs covering about 2.2GW
