The US added 7,017MW of new wind capacity in 2017, with even bigger years on the immediate horizon as developers take advantage of the fading production tax credit, according to new figures from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
The US ended the year with 89,077MW of operational wind capacity, second only to China. In 2018 wind is expected to overtake hydropower as the largest US source of renewable electricity generation.
