Ireland is facing a fine of €1.7m ($2m) over its failure to comply with an European Union Court of Justice ruling involving the 60MW Derrybrien wind farm in Galway.

The European Commission aims to take Ireland back to the ECJ as the country has not complied with part of a 2008 judgement, which said Ireland had to carry out an environmental impact assessment for Derrybrien, despite the project being 13 years old.
