Germany’s northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein said it will in early February bring a legislative initiative in the Bundesrat – the country's upper house of parliament – to raise national offshore wind targets.

Under the proposal, Germany’s offshore target would rise to 20GW by 2030 (from 15GW currently envisaged) and the country would introduce a 30GW target for 2035.

“The offshore sector needs a long-term perspective via a continuous expansion in the home market in order to secure the know-how, innovation and cost cutting potentials in Germany,” said Robert Habeck, the Green Party energy transition minister for Schleswig-Holstein.
