The government of Nova Scotia has unveiled its Marine Renewable Energy Act, a framework for the development of offshore energy resources including wind, tidal and wave power off the Canadian maritime province.

The new legislation was heralded as “world leading” by national industry association Marine Renewables Canada, which emphasised the act’s focus on the designation of areas of priority for development, as well as a licensing and permitting regime.
