France last year added a record 1.69GW new onshore wind capacity – bringing its cumulative total to 13.76GW – as a working group set up by the government, unions and NGOs this week considered a series of measures to speed up its sometimes tortuously slow wind development process.

"With nearly 1.7GW connected in 2017, France Energie Eolienne (FEE) is very confident about reaching the 15GW at the end of 2018 [the target of the French government's multi-year energy plan],” said Olivier Perot, the president of French wind energy association FEE.
