The US Department of the Interior (DOI) will no longer criminally prosecute wind farm owners if their turbines accidently kill migratory birds, reversing previous practice that resulted in the industry paying millions of dollars in fines and liable for additional penalties.
The change, which also applies to other energy-related infrastructure, is the latest move by President Donald Trump’s administration to ease costs for companies to comply with federal environmental rules and regulations.
