India plans to end the 2017/18 financial year with a total of 9.5GW of wind power auctioned out, said the country’s power minister – more than expected just a few weeks ago – after revealing plans for a 6.5GW tendering flurry in the next three months.

The massive tendering plan for the period ending 31 March – which minister RK Singh said will include 6GW under the country’s inter-state transmission scheme on top of the 2GW already under offer, and a 500MW state auction in Maharashtra – contrasts with a miserly grid-connected capacity of just 467MW added in the period from April to November.
