Over the next few months, the North American renewables industry will get a fascinating look at the future of New England’s power market, as Massachusetts concludes two separate clean-energy tenders – one focused largely on onshore renewables and the other exclusively on offshore wind.

Results from the so-called 83C and 83D tenders will offer insight into the relative competitiveness of the three main renewables options for the region going forward: onshore wind and solar, carefully woven into New England’s densely populated landscape; Canadian hydro and wind flowed down to the US on new transmission lines; or the new kid on the block, offshore wind.
