Two key committees of the European Parliament voted for provisions in the upcoming Energy Union regulations that would speed up the submission of national renewables targets, as well as oversee the progress of the energy transition.

The parliament’s industry and energy committee and the environment committee requested that the EU’s 28 member states submit so-called National Energy and Climate Plans by 1 June 2019 – or six months earlier than the European Council’s preference.
