Plans for Australia’s first offshore wind farm took a big step forward as Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) said it will join development of the 2GW project off Victoria.

CIP will join local group Offshore Energy, which until now has been sole developer of the Star of the South, via a direct investment in the project.

The project site – 10-25km off the coast in the Bass Strait – aims to feed cheap offshore wind power to meet demand in centres including Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city.
