Algonquin Power & Utilities sees little threat from the current drama surrounding the US wind production tax credit (PTC) to its plan to build 800MW of wind in Missouri over the next few years, with chief executive Ian Robertson saying Congress will likely leave the PTC untouched.

Canada’s Algonquin, a growing player in the international renewables sector, announced plans earlier this month to shut a coal plant owned by its Missouri-based utility, Empire District Electric, and add 800MW of wind capacity in the region – claiming an overwhelming economic rationale for the coal-to-wind switch.
