Preliminary construction work at Westermeerwind

TÜV SÜD PMSS has detailed the project management tasks it carried out for the Westermeerwind development, as the Dutch near-shore wind farm reaches financial close.

The consultancy, signed on in 2010 by development contractor Ventolines, managed a client team, prepared documentation and negotiated the turnkey deal with turbine supplier Siemens, as well as several long-term service-support contracts for the 144MW project.

“To see Westermeerwind achieve its financing goals in good time for the start of construction is extremely satisfying,” says Rob Waddington, TÜV SÜD PMSS's director of project delivery.

"Early-stage decisions, like the choice of manufacturer and principal contractor, are critical [to a wind farm reaching financial close] since they will ultimately govern investor appetite and shape the progress of the entire project.”

Westermeerwind, in the Ijsselmeer - a shallow artificial lake in the central Netherlands - will have 48 Siemens 3MW turbines, Ventolines will be responsible for project management during the construction and asset-management stage.
