Nordex’s new turbine

Nordex plans to erect the first prototypes of its new N131/3000 turbine for low-wind-speed sites in the fourth quarter of this year.

The 3MW machine, which will have a 131-metre-diameter rotor and 64.5-metre blades, is expected to enter serial production in mid-2015.

It is the third model in Nordex’s Delta series, which boasts a 20-30% higher energy output than previous models due to longer blades and efficiency refinements. The N117/3000 and N117/3300 — designed for medium- and high-wind-speed sites respectively — were unveiled last year and accounted for 17% of the company’s sales in the first half of this year.

All three models can be outfitted with a cold-climate package that includes blades with a heating-mat-based anti-icing system.
