AES sells UK wind portfolio

Investment trust Greencoat UK Wind has agreed to acquire a 51.6% stake in an 87MW clutch of onshore wind farms from subsidiaries of AES Corporation, in a deal worth £90.6m ($150.7m).

The four plants, located in England and Scotland, increase Greencoat's investment portfolio to 16 UK wind farms with a net capacity of 271.5MW, according to the company.

Swiss Life Funds Global Infrastructure Opportunities, a fund managed by Swiss Life Asset Managers will co-invest and acquire the remaining 48.4%.

The 22MW North Rhins Wind Farm is located on the North Rhins peninsula, west of Stranraer in Dumfries and has been operational since December 2009, followed in 2012 by the 28.6MW Drone Hill Wind Farm, located west of Eyemouth in the Borders.

Last year, the 20.5MW Sixpenny Wood Wind Farm, based near Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and the 16.4MW Yelvertoft Wind Farm, east of Rugby in Northamptonshire, also came into operation.

All four wind farms were developed and constructed by AES and receive 1 ROC per MWh.
