Juwi seals sale of Uruguay project

Juwi has sold a 50MW wind project in Uruguay to a subsidiary of an Italian energy provider but has been retained to construct the facility, its first in South America.

The German company did not name the new project owner or provide financial details of the transaction. The Italian firm will operate the wind farm.

“We have found a customer and strategic partner that is ideal for the realization of this project due to its great expertise in large wind farms,” juwi project developers Johannes Jacob and Wolfgang Schulenburg say in a joint statement.

The 20-turbine wind farm will be located in Cerro Largo in northern Uruguay. Usinas y Transmissiones del Estado, or UTE, will purchase the electricity under a 20-year contract.

The project site is close to an existing 150kV transmission line and a planned high-voltage line that will link Uruguay’s grid with Brazil.
