Elecnor, Gamesa in Jordan wind joy

Spanish EPC group Elecnor has won a tender to build a wind farm in Jordan using turbines from compatriot manufacturer Gamesa.

Elecnor will construct an up-to-75MW plant on public land in the southern Jordanian city of Maan, with operations due to begin by the end of next year.

The group was chosen after a government tender process that began in 2013, Elecnor confirmed to Recharge.

Local reports say the project will be government-owned and financed by a regional development fund.

The Maan project, slated to use 2MW Gamesa turbines, will be the second major wind farm to be built in Jordan.

The first is the 117MW Tafilah wind farm, which will use Vestas turbines when it starts operations in the first quarter of next year.
