Invenergy, Platte River sign PPA

The Platte River Power Authority’s board votes to approve the purchase of 28MW of additional wind energy from Invenergy Wind’s Spring Canyon Energy Center in Colorado.

Neither side released financial details of the transaction.

Today’s deal covers a third project phase that is also due online by 1 January 2015.

Platte River in May 2013 contracted with an affiliate of Invenergy Wind to purchase 32MW of wind generation capacity from the Spring Canyon II project scheduled for commercial operation in the fourth quarter.

Invenergy’s original 60MW Spring Canyon Energy facility entered operation in 2006.

“The purchase of the additional wind energy supports Platte River’s strategic initiative to further diversify our generation resource mix,” says Jackie Sargent, Platte River chief executive.

Platte River is a nonprofit wholesale electricity generation and transmission provider for its owner communities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland, Colorado to their utility customers.
