Siemens has finished installing the offshore platform for Germany’s HelWin2 wind link project, the company said today.

Siemens said he installation puts HelWin 2 “on the home stretch” ahead of the start of operations in the coming year.

It is building the 690MW HelWin2 for TenneT, the network operator responsible for delivering offshore wind connections in the German North Sea.

Together with the already installed 576MWHelwin1 station, it will connect a cluster of wind farms near the island of Amrum, converting alternating current (AC) into DC and sending it 130km to an onshore grid connection.

Siemens is delivering a total of five North Sea links for TenneT, four of which are due to come online in the second half of this year and the first six months of 2015, with a total capacity of 2.9GW.
