Gamesa wins 50MW Uruguay deal

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has won a contract to supply and install a 50MW wind farm in Uruguay.

The contract is with Uruguayan firm Astidey for the construction of the Talas de Maciel I wind farm in the department of Flores and includes a 20-year operation and maintenance agreement.

The 25 G97-2.0 MW turbines will be delivered over the course of 2014, and the project is expected to be completed by mid 2015. Finance for the project is sponsored by the US Export-Import (Ex-Im) bank.

So far, Gamesa has installed 100MW in Uruguay, and has agreements – including the latest deal – to add another 150MW.

Gamesa has installed over 1.9GW of turbines in Latin American markets, which accounted for 49% of its 2013 revenues.
