Xcel Energy estimates wind will comprise about 40% of electric power supply within its service territory in New Mexico and Texas by 2021, if regulators in both states approve the utility holding company’s plans to add 1.23GW of capacity.

Xcel now supplies about 22% of its electric power with wind in eastern New Mexico, the northern Panhandle and adjacent South Plains regions in Texas, which it purchases under long-term off-take agreements.
