Landmark bills that set a goal for California to generate all retail electricity from renewable and carbon-free sources by 2045 and to regionalize its electric grid stalled before the end of the legislative session on Friday.
As lawmakers finished their work, a consensus emerged that both measures require further study to allow careful consideration of the potential impacts on the state’s climate policies, domestic renewable energy development, electricity costs and supply, grid security and jobs.
