Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas expects to install a record 1.5GW in onshore wind capacity in Germany this year, up from about 1.2GW in 2016, but cautions of a lull later unless regulatory changes are carried out to remedy shortcomings in the country’s tendering system.

“We will install 1.5GW this year in Germany – that is a record installation. This is still part of the effect of old building permits [granted] in 2016, that are implemented in 2017 and 2018,” Kund Rissel, vice president sales at Vestas Central Europe, told Recharge at the Husum Wind 2017 fair.
