International energy consultancy DNV GL has opened a pioneering control hardware in loop (CHIL) test facility for renewable energy projects, making it possible for the first time for a wind or solar farm controller to be validated without plant shut-down.
The CHIL test bench, which was developed as one of the company’s “power cybernetics” initiatives, is designed to combine the “rigour of lab-based tests with the flexibility and speed of computer simulation”.
