US developers this year through June installed 14.74GW of utility-scale generation capacity, up from 10.53GW a year earlier, with wind and solar placing second and third behind natural gas, according to latest Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) data.

New wind capacity totaled 3.6GW versus 2.2GW in the first six months of 2016, while solar declined slightly to 2.05GW from 2.13GW.
