Municipal utility Austin Energy in the Texas capital will now seek to provide 65% of its electric power from renewable sources by 2027, up from an already ambitious 55% goal by 2025.

In a 10-1 vote of approval, the Austin City Council also instructed the utility to devise models that consider “costs, benefits, risks and potential rate impacts” for potentially raising renewable goals to 75% and 80% by 2027, and 100% by 2030.
