Dong Energy has confirmed EEW Special Pipe Constructions as producer of all 174 monopile foundations for the 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm that will be the world’s biggest.

The deal extends a 116-monopile contract with EEW SPC for the wind farm off eastern England, which is due for completion by the end of 2020 using 7MW Siemens turbines.

The Danish developer originally considered deploying suction-bucket jackets at the remaining foundations at Hornsea 1, but said the decision to go all-monopile “optimises the execution of the project, and helps ensure it will be built on time”.
