State-of-the art sensor systems have been wired into a pair of the gravity base foundations (GBFs) now being installed at EDF ER’s 41.5MW Blyth offshore wind demonstrator off north-east England, as part of a project being led by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult to advance the ‘float and submerge’ foundations toward commercialisation.

Data collected by condition monitoring kit – in its maiden use on GBFs, which were built at BAM Nuttall’s Tyneside yard – will be synchronised with Catapult’s nearby meteorological mast to analyse the performance of the next-generation foundations in real-world conditions
