Alliant Energy will seek regulatory approval to add another 500MW of rate-based wind by 2020, on top of the 500MW it received approval for late last year, as traditional US electric utilities grow ever more comfortable owning wind farms.

Alliant’s Interstate Power and Light (IPL) unit, a regulated utility based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will ask the Iowa Utilities Board to sign off on another 500MW of wind in the state, with a decision expected in early 2018.
