India’s power minister Piyush Goyal flagged the idea of monthly wind auctions as the country signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for more than 1GW following its first national tender.

Goyal said frequent tenders – which he said would have to be “calibrated” to ensure affordability for consumers – and more freedom for India’s states to decide their mix of renewable sources could help the wind sector scale up to meet the country’s target of 60GW by 2022, roughly double what’s in place now.
