Swiss player ABB has landed a deal with ScottishPower Renewables to support integration of offshore wind energy at the 714MW East Anglia One wind farm in the UK.
The $30m contract will see ABB supply two SVC Light Static Compensators (STATCOMs) that will smooth out the voltage fluctuations that are an inherent feature of intermittent wind energy.
STATCOM is part of ABB’s family of flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) technologies that help reduce losses, enhance the capacity and flexibility of power transmission systems and contribute to more efficient and reliable grids.
