Brookfield Energia Renovável, the Brazilian renewable energy unit of Canadian investment fund Brookfield, has made a firm offer of undisclosed value for a 17% stake in troubled Brazilian renewable energy company Renova Energia.

In addition to buying the minority stake currently owned by Light – a unit of state-controlled power company Cemig – Brookfield could also inject capital into Renova, Renova said in a statement to the São Paulo stock exchange late Tuesday afternoon.
