Canadian infrastructure giant SNC-Lavalin has completed the purchase of Atkins, the UK-based engineering group that has a growing profile in renewables.

The C$3.6bn ($2.8bn) deal adds Atkins’ 18,000 global staff to the SNC-Lavalin Group, swelling the latter to a 50,000-employee business with revenues of about C$12bn.

Atkins president Heath Drewett, who will lead a new Atkins business unit in the expanded SNC-Lavalin, said: “Joining SNC-Lavalin will provide us with the ability to offer our clients and employees the enhanced scale, capabilities, expertise and other benefits that come with being part of a larger and stronger global company.”
